Catalina had been looking forward to the Halloween party all year. She was a bit of a rebel and loved to push boundaries, so when her parents told her she was too young to go, she was determined to go anyway. That night, she waited until her parents were asleep and then snuck out of the house.
She was wearing a costume that made her feel more mature and a bit wild. She was having the best time at the dance, meeting new people and letting loose. There was one man in particular who caught her eye. He was charming, and witty, and they danced together all night. She loved how free he made her feel. She asked him "what do you do?" and he was oddly evasive. she knew something wasn't quite right about this stranger, yet somehow she was still feeling drawn toward him more than ever before. After pressing the issue he answered, “I’m a vampire”. She laughed, thinking he was joking. But then he showed her his fangs and she realized he was serious. She should have been scared, but for some reason she wasn't.
The next thing she knew, they were outside in the moonlight and he was biting into her neck. She felt a sharp pain and then everything went black. When she woke up, she was lying in a coffin inside of a dark basement. The man who had bitten her was there, along with several others. She looked at her arms, felt her neck and realized they had been feeding on her. An overwhelming thirst washed over her like nothing she had felt before.
The stranger explained that she belonged to him now and they would be married in a ceremony at the next new moon. Catalina was disgusted by the idea. An eternity with one man drinking blood together. It was not what she wanted. She wanted to be free and wild, not tied down by rules and tradition. But she had no choice in the matter. He had a control over her she could not explain. She was his now, forever. And she would have to obey him or suffer the consequences. She reluctantly agreed to be his bride, as if she had any real choice in the matter.
Over time she began to accept her fate. And eventually, she even started to enjoy the nightly feeding. The blood made her feel powerful, almost invincible. She was now a part of something dark and dangerous and she loved it, but she hated her husband for taking away her freedom. When he took a second wife it was too much for her to bear. She wanted what he had… freedom.
She had heard tales of witches who lived in the nearby woods, an area that was forbidden to vampires. She was desperate for help so again against all advice she went anyway. She met a woman there who promised to help her become human again if she did a task for her. “I’ll do anything” Catalina said. The woman gave her a potion to drink. Catalina didn't know what the consequences would be, but she was willing to take the risk. She eagerly drank the potion and immediately felt different. The strangest sensation overcame her and then she passed out.
When she woke up, she was lying in the same spot in the forest. The first thing she noticed was that the daylight didn't hurt her eyes anymore and secondly, she felt the thirst for blood even more intensely. Immediately she knew she had made a mistake. Even though the sun no longer hurt her the bloodlust remained only now she had a new master.
